LCUK
Directory Project Update |
|
|
The LCUK Directory was due to go into
printing in July 2009 and has been delayed due to the increase
in the number of new entries received (around 1500 more
than last time, so a grand total of around 6500) which is
very encouraging. We are continuing our data preparation
and extra verification checks specifically around the entries
for which we also do not have phone numbers (some 1500).
We are working with the Mahajans and using various other
means to obtain the phone numbers and will then call each
number to ensure their details can be included - these entries
are not known as preferred X-Directory numbers. |
|
|
|
|
|
An
opportunity still exists for more full and half page adverts
from businesses and personal messages (@ £25) to go
on the bottom of each page. Please see the LCUK website
at
www.LCUK.org.uk
for more details of the advertising
rates and personal message examples. The closing date for
placing adverts and messages has been extended to 31st
August 2009, as we will be preparing for printing after
that date. For more information please email Adverts@LCUK.org.uk
or Message@LCUK.org.uk.
Thank you for your ongoing support
for this very important project. The Directory Project Team
are aiming to deliver another quality Directory to celebrate
the LCUK's 30th anniversary. |

Shree
Manubhai Madhvani Co- Authors Book |
|
|
Shree
Manubhai Madhvani, with
Giles Fodden, has written a book "Tide of Fortune".
It is an astonishing account of fortunes made, lost and
found again. At it's heart is Amin's notorious expulsion
of the Ugandan Asians in 1972. It is as much a spiritual
odyssey and a primer for young entrepreneurs, as it is a
family tale. Our congratulations to Manubhai on producing
this interesting and detailed account of his family tale
as a book. |

Do
you want to become a Councillor? |
|
|
The
representation of Black and other Minority Ethnic (BAME)
women at every level of governance from the Houses of Parliament
to local government is woefully low. Of the 646 MPs in Westminster,
two are BAME women and out of 20,000 Councillors, 149 are
BAME women, representing less than 1% of Councillors nationally.

Loan
$25 to change lives through Kiva? |
|
|
Kiva
(www.kiva.org)
is a non-profit setup that allows
you to lend as little as $25 to a specific low-income entrepreneur
across the globe. You choose who to lend to - whether a
baker in Afghanistan, a goat herder in Uganda, a farmer
in Peru, a restaurateur in Cambodia, or a tailor in Iraq
- and as they repay their loan, you get your money back.
It's a powerful and sustainable way to empower someone right
now to lift themselves out of poverty. |
